Rhian Davies SCITT Programme Manager

After completing her degree in Psychology and Criminology, Rhian worked in the area of mental health and as a resettlement officer with young homeless people. This inspired her to work in education and lead to her studying the PGCE. Rhian started her teaching career in Cheshire and became Head of Sociology, teaching Psychology and Sociology. During this time she worked closely with Keele University delivering lectures to the Social Science PGCE students. This focused both on subject specific teaching practice and on the role of the tutor in delivering Citizenship/PSHE. Since this she has continued to mentor a number of trainee teachers within the Social Science department.

Rhian later took up a position in Wiltshire as Head of Psychology and Sociology and as a member of the wider Senior Leadership team, where an area of focus was on learning in the 6th Form, with an emphasis on independent learning strategies. To broaden her teaching experience, Rhian spent two years in Thailand as the Head of Psychology at a British international school, teaching students from all backgrounds and nationalities, the majority being EAL. This gave her the opportunity to travel and a further appreciation of diverse cultures and lifestyles, and how these impact on student learning.

Rhian returned to the UK to teach Psychology, and was the Lead Practitioner for ITT/Professional Tutor at RWBA, before taking on her current position of North Wiltshire SCITT Programme Manager. Rhian enjoys working with trainee teachers, helping them focus their enthusiasm and develop their teaching skills, and strongly believes that schools and pupils also benefit from this training process.
