Social Science (2LM5)

Social Science covers a wide range of subjects, including; Psychology, Sociology, Politics, and Law.  Some Social Science departments also include BTEC Child Play, Learning and Development or BTEC Criminology etc.   This subject covers the 14-19 years age range. 

Trainees will be expected to teach their main Social Science subject (based upon their degree), plus have the ability to teach a second subject at Key Stage 4 and Key Stage 5.  An A-Level in this second subject or demonstration of experience is required.

We are looking for:

  • A Degree, of which at least 50% must be related to their first Social Science Subject.
  • An A-Level in their second Social Science Subject or the ability to teach a second subject.

  • The ability to remain calm and focused under pressure.
  • A team player.

School Experience:
Whilst not a requirement of the course, it is beneficial to gain some school experience (either as observational days, Teaching Assistant roles, volunteering etc.) to understand the role of a Social Science teacher in the classroom.
