Unfortunately, our Science ITT programmes are now closed for 2023-2024.  Recruitment commences in October 2023 for 2024-2025 courses.

Whichever your science specialism may be, you will be required to teach all three science subjects (Biology, Chemistry and Physics) during your ITT course.

Your specific subject knowledge sessions will be delivered by your Science Subject Lead Tutor and will cover topics such as, but not limited to:

  • Practical demonstrations.

  • Curriculum knowledge and pedagogy.
  • Assessment of Science.
  • Behaviour Management within the Science classroom.

We are looking for:

  • Inspirational trainees, with a passion for science, who are committed to education.
  • A degree, of which at least 50% must be related to their primary science subject.
  • Science A-levels are desired, but not essential.
  • Trainees must demonstrate their knowledge of their science specialism, but be aware that they will also need to teach the other two sciences in addition.
  • A knowledge of the National Curriculum for Science at Key Stage 3 and 4 is advantageous.
  • Flexibility, initiative, resilience.
  • Be a confident communicator.
  • Good time management skills
  • The ability to remain calm and focused under pressure.
  • A great team player.
  • Trainees who are prepared to work hard and be organised.

School Experience:
Whilst not a requirement of the course, it is beneficial to gain some school experience (either as observational days, Teaching Assistant roles, volunteering etc.) to understand the role of a Science teacher in the classroom and the breadth of knowledge required.
