Physical Education (2LLY)

Trainees need to have a varied interest in sport and have played a range of sports in their lives and be currently active in sport/physical activity. They should also have relevant experience with young people, either in schools or coaching in clubs, as well as having knowledge of Anatomy and Physiology, Sports Psychology and Sport in Society.

Subject sessions deal with both subject specific content to ensure that trainees have the skills and knowledge to deliver high quality physical education, but also the best mechanics of delivery. We cover invasion games, net/wall games, aesthetic activities, outdoor education, swimming activities, athletic activities and, striking and fielding activities. These elements of subject specific knowledge help us to contextualise advanced teaching practices and strategies to enable all pupils to progress within our subject.

We are looking for:

  • Inspirational trainees, with a passion for Physical Education, who are committed to education.
  • A Degree, of which at least 50% must be related to sports / sports studies / physical education.
  • Flexibility, initiative, resilience.

  • The ability to remain calm and focused under pressure.
  • A team player.

School Experience:

Whilst not a requirement of the course, it is beneficial to gain some school experience (either as observational days, Teaching Assistant roles, volunteering etc.) to understand the role of a PE teacher.
