Jane Townsend has been teaching Modern Languages since 1994. Teaching English as a Foreign Language gave her the taste for teaching as a career, and she returned to the UK to complete her PGCE at Sheffield Hallam. She holds a firm belief in the importance of languages both as an academic discipline as well as an opportunity to enrich students’ lives both during their time at school and for their future.
Jane’s teaching career began in the North East, where she worked for 16 years in Language Colleges in Gateshead and Northumberland, and gained promotion to Head of German and consequently Head of MFL. During this time, she lead a large department teaching 5 languages to A Level. Working with trainees has been a constant throughout her career; initially as a mentor then leading to close collaboration with Newcastle University. In 2010 she relocated to the South West and began her post as Assistant Head of MFL at Highworth Warneford School. Since 2011 she has trained MFL teachers in her position as MFL Subject Leader at Swindon SCITT.
