History (2LM3)

Unfortunately, our History programme is now closed for our 2023-2024 course. 

History teachers have a passion for teaching their subject and are open to re-adjusting the perspective that history is taught through.  History teachers also often teach across all humanities subjects.

History specific subject sessions will be taught by your dedicated History Subject Lead Tutor and you will cover subjects such as, but not limited to:

  • Teaching great History lessons.
  • The purpose of teaching History in the curriculum.
  • History skills vs knowledge debate.
  • Revising approaches to teaching History.
  • A range of Historical areas, as per the National Curriculum.

We are looking for:

  • Inspirational trainees, with a passion for History, who are committed to education and have a willingness to learn.
  • A Degree, of which at least 50% must be related to historical studies.
  • An A-Level in History is preferred, but not essential.
  • Knowledge of Medieval history.
  • Historical knowledge of the 19th and 20th centuries, as per the National Curriculum, plus an understanding and awareness of other content areas.
  • Flexibility, initiative, resilience.
  • Be a confident communicator.
  • Excellent time management skills
  • The ability to remain calm and focused under pressure.
  • A team player.
  • Trainees who are prepared to work hard and be organised.

School Experience:
Whilst not a requirement of the course, it is beneficial to gain some school experience (either as observational days, Teaching Assistant roles, volunteering etc.) to understand the role of an History teacher in the classroom.
