'A Crazy Year to be Training' Teacher Training Through Strange and Unusal Times

by Mei Lin (Maths)

After several years of putting off my application for teaching training, I finally applied to start my training in September 2020, a crazy year to be training as I have been told by everyone I meet in school!  It has most definitely been an emotional rollercoaster but the support and encouragement I have received from Nina and Rhian at NWSCITT, my mentor, professional tutor and subject mentors has been incredible.  I have found everyone on the course and in school so friendly.  My placement school has made me feel welcome and given me so much help and advice with my lessons.  The feedback I have received has been invaluable and I have noticed improvement in each lesson I have given.  You are surrounded by a great support team when training with NWSCITT.  I will admit I have had some low points but there is always someone to talk to and I will not stress how important it is to talk to someone, it really helps!

NWSCITT’s programme is well organised, the central training is varied and invaluable, the placements are planned so that you gradually build up your teaching hours without overwhelming you whilst complementing the PGCE side from Bath Spa University. This year has been different from previous years’ training, we are all becoming experts in attending Zoom and MS Teams meetings for our training as well as give online lessons ourselves and despite not seeing each other there is still a great camaraderie amongst the trainees.
